When you describe Convosphere to someone, the first question is almost always the same: why two hundred meters? It sounds small. Two hundred meters is a couple of blocks, a bar, a bus stop.
That is exactly the point. The minimum radius is not there to limit how many people read you: it guarantees that whoever reads you can actually do something. If you write “a tree fell on the bike path”, anyone inside that circle can change route. Anyone three kilometers away can only tap a heart.
A setting that teaches
The radius grows when you need it to, up to a whole neighborhood. But the short default changes how people write. They stop announcing and start asking: is there room? is it open? has anyone seen a grey cat?
Questions are the unit of a living square. Announcements are the unit of a feed.
What we will not do
People have asked for a national radius, a global channel, daily trends. The answer is no, and it is a structural no: every message in Convosphere is born with a position and dies outside its circle. If we ever changed that, we would have built just another social network. There are enough of those already.
